New Year, New Adventures
Hi, I’m Rob, and I’m from Scotland. Welcome to the first entry on my new blog for 2025! I’ve started this blog to share my adventures in travel and photography, along with the stories behind the places I’ve explored, both here in Scotland and further afield. I aim to write 1 blog entry a week.
Last year, I spent a lot of time reconnecting with nature, photographing ancient Scottish castles, hiking incredible hills, and soaking up the peace and beauty of Scotland’s remote lochs and glens. It was an amazing year, and now I’m excited to take things even further in 2025. I’d love for you to join me on this journey and see where it leads.
Highlights of 2024
Last year was a big year for me. I explored some incredible places, reconnected with nature, and found myself inspired in ways I hadn’t felt in a long time. There were a few standout experiences that reminded me why I love doing this.
First, in March, I took a solo trip to the Isle of Bute and stayed in a glamping hut. It was a bit of an escape for me and a chance to reset. I remember feeling a little lost at first, but that quickly changed. The ferry ride to the island was the start of an adventure, and walking through the country park and exploring the isle gave me the kind of quiet, reflective moments I’d been craving. I’d love to go back. Since that adventure I have done many things solo – including a 2 night trip to Milan last month.
Then there was my first Munro hike up Ben Lomond. I’ll never forget how challenging it was, but with every step, the views became more rewarding. By the time I reached the summit, I was completely in awe of the beauty around me. That sense of accomplishment, along with the photos I captured, made it one of the highlights of my year. I bagged four Munros throughout 2024, and I’m planning to do even more this year.
Another highlight was exploring abandoned and derelict buildings like Dunmore Park House, Slains Castle, and Hartwood Hospital. These places have a haunting beauty, and photographing them felt like stepping back in time. My visit to countless castles throughout the year, too. Each location told a story, and capturing that through my camera lens was something I won’t forget.
Plans for 2025
This year is already off to a busy start. I’ll be heading to the northeast of England for a few days this week, then to Dublin in the middle of the month, followed by another trip to the Scottish Highlands at the end of January. I also have a solo trip planned to Brussels in February. I’m looking forward to exploring these new places with my camera and sharing the photos and stories with you on my website.
Closer to home, there are still so many castles in Scotland I haven’t visited yet and plenty of Munros I’m eager to climb. I love photographing the beauty of castles and their scenic surroundings, and I enjoy finding peace in nature on long walks. I can’t wait to share the moments, challenges, and beauty from all these adventures as they unfold.
My goals this year it to keep continuing to improve myself, both physically and mentally, and most importantly travel more to take photos.
